Living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: Tommy’s Poem

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic, progressive form of muscular dystrophy that occurs primarily in males. It is caused by genetic changes in the DMD gene and is inherited in an X-linked recessive pattern. X-linked means the gene for the condition is located on the X-chromosome.

One of our patients, Tommy, recently wrote a poem that encompasses his thoughts and feelings living with DMD. This poem beautifully encompasses his journey living with DMD, the importance of his support system, and his continual goal for a fulfilling life.
